About Troop 170
Troop 170 is part of the Dan Beard Council, and the Blue Jacket District. The Troop was chartered in March of 1928 by the PTA. Pastor MSGR. P.J. Hines said," You will never get enough men to lead the boys." He was wrong. In the last 85 years we have had a great following of young men and adults to keep this troop strong and getting better each year producing more than forty Eagle Scouts.
Troop 170 has been in many actives such as, Honor Guard for President Herbert Hoover when he dedicated Victory Parkway. One year on V.E. Day they raised $6000.00 in pledges in a Radio Bond Show on WKRC Radio. In 2006, Troop 170 was featured in Time Magazine for building a Veterans Memorial in Union Township. We were honored for having earned the greatest number of advancements for the Council in one year in 1975,1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001.
We hold meetings each week, and have a outing once a month. Camping, canoeing, backpacking, caving, hiking, and having fun are some of the things we do.
The Troop is open to any boy who has completed the fifth grade, is eleven years old, or who 10 years old and earned the Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts until they are 18 years old. For more information on joining please see our joining information page.
